Today, I learned a new skill.
Last week, I had scanned some logs. The proceeded to stitch them together using a specific program. Plan was to then upload them to another program. While specific to maps and logs, as I described it to C., this is their equivalent to an Online Catalog. Except it was not anything I was familiar with.
Today, after lunch, my Supervisor and I sat down to train me on some of the basics to upload the logs. As it turned out, I got a bit more than bargained for as we had to revise certain layers to the map we would be working with. Once that was set up, I was able to get in to start learning how to load, and depth register the logs. Along the way, I managed to impress my boss with how quickly I picked up the various steps of using this program.
While in the end, we were unable to finish depth-registering the logs due to repeated errors in the program - every time we tried to save the altered logs, it would crash the program, it was determined I should arrange a time with the Trainer for this particular program to get more in-depth lessons when he was next in the office. Which is usually once a month. He'll next be in mid-February. The idea being for me to be able to do more with the logs and maps, and as I continue to inventory items, to be able to add them to the "Catalog" directly.
In other news, tonight C. and I visited a synagogue. I've known for a while I wanted to find one. I also know I wanted to find one which would geared more towards the Reform denomination. Partly because Reform Judaism tends to be the most accepting of the various denominations towards inter-faith couples. This place was definitely welcoming.
It's located north of us. I had done my research online, so I knew some things about the place. Like it being a "family-friendly" Shabbat, so the little kids helped to lead, the prayer book was geared more towards children. There was probably about two dozen people there, a third of them being kids. We'll likely go back. Everyone was very nice.
Oh, also in regards to that IBM article I was searching for earlier this week? IBM doesn't have it either.
