This past weekend, we had company. My friend, AH, came visiting from Boston. The purpose was to visit the Knitting and Crochet Festival in Pittsburgh. It was... underwhelming. We had bought a weekend pass expecting there to be demos or something. It was the Dealer's Room. There were classes, but those cost additional, and were sold out by the time I had learned this thing existed. So we spent a few hours in the Dealer's Room Saturday, and then were done.
It was not a complete loss. I discovered some nifty Pittsburgh-local dyers. And I did buy a new (larger) project bag and one skein of yarn, and AH found some yarn and embroidery thread for projects, but all in all, it was not what we were expecting.
We found ourselves in the Strip District for lunch. Eating at Smallman Galley and then next door at Peace, Love, and Little Donuts for dessert. We also spent a while in the Contemporary Craft Society, chatting with the in-resident artists, and poking around their studios. I want to go back for one or two of their classes.
Sunday brought a visit to a local yarn store, which I then found out is just a short bus ride away! Their 1st anniversary party is next weekend; I am already planning to attend.
So while perhaps not as planned with the Festival, it was a good weekend, and great to see AH.
Work's been good as well. I spent most of today searching for very specific maps via the Geological Survey and Depository websites available online. It also was a bit frustrating. There are a couple times in my search today, I needed to talk to the librarians at the Depositories, in these cases, at one Academic and one Public Library. There are definite times as a Corporate Librarian, in talking with Academic of Public Librarian, I am made to feel I am not a "real" Librarian because I do not work in a "real" Library.
Thankfully, it is not a normal occurrence.
