Settling in.

Yesterday, there was some questionable files. The previous person in my position had got through a majority of state files, but there are some filing cabinets which had not been inventoried/catalogued. Over the last couple of weeks, I've been slowly making my way through files from Wyoming and Utah. The question then became, as the remaining filing cabinets were not clearly labelled, were they my project, or a separate project inventoried involving seismic data. The answer was... both.
In the meantime, I had acquired two boxes of Ohio-based inventory, and have spent the last two days (and part of tomorrow, likely) inventorying Ohio data. From there, it is back to the filing cabinets and the New York data.
I landed in a good place. There are definitely options here, in regards to what I can do.

This place also uses EBSCO for their search resources. I think I've mentioned I would to set-up an Institutional Repository (though, that is way down the road). I used to work at EBSCO, and our salesperson in the new place is someone I worked with very closely during my time at EBSCO. It's an ideal situation. He's glad to have someone who understands the jargon, and I am glad to have someone who knows I used to work there and as a result, understands the details. We spent forty-five minutes on the phone yesterday, both discussing an EBSCO-required migration for Full Text, while also catching each other up on the more recent events of our lives, like hey, I moved to Pittsburgh! Ha.

Tonight, C. and I hung a few items up on the wall. Our furniture and stuff was delivered Tuesday. Things are starting to feel a bit more homey. In fact as I type this, I am sitting on our couch!! This is a very big deal seeing as I spent two weeks in this apartment with nothing but a bed and laptop.
We are still figuring out the space. Our couch, bought to accommodate the space in the Boston apartment, is debatedly too small for the space we now occupy. While first priority is a dining table, we may look into also buying a larger couch. (We are also still figuring out the kitchen. In some ways, it is larger, though the cabinet space is not. However I finally have baking supplies, and am hoping to make cookies this weekend. A home is not truly a home until something has been baked in it, after all.
This week has been a series of firsts. First visit to Golden Corral. Last night, we saw Doctor Strange - $5 tickets on Tuesdays - $5 tickets! - and preceded it with a visit to Red Robin. So. First trip to Red Robin. Tonight, we used the George Foreman Grill for the first time here.
I look forward to many more "firsts".

  1. Happy to hear that there is a movie theater near you that has 5 tickets on Tuesdays. What did you think of Doctor Strange? I enjoyed it so much that I saw it twice - once with Adrian, and once with my friend Eileen.

  2. Hi Mary, We were actually not impressed with the movie. I very much enjoyed the special effects, but overall I felt the storyline felt forced. In a lot of ways, it feels like Marvel has expanded too far, and they're no longer quite sure how they need to bring everything back together. The credits-scenes are proof of this, as they are now being used as plot points for the next movies, rather than fun scenes.

That being said. I thought it was an awesome origin story for Mordo. Less so for Dr. Strange.
