The past week in the office was fairly quiet. One Geologist is retiring in the new year, so the whole group went to lunch on Monday as a send-off. Otherwise, it was a lot of inventorying materials, and finding articles. I've been helping one Geologist locate articles on 'induced seismic activity'. It's surprising how much is out there on the topic. I've had to learn about the different types of wells, and how the induced seismic activity affects each type. We've been focusing our search on certain States, which makes it only somewhat easier to find documentation.
My office was closed Friday, and is closed today (Monday) for the Christmas holiday. Even while Christmas is not my holiday, it's been a nice to have a little break. C. and I have started watching Man in the High Castle season 2, I've been getting knitting done, and we've done a little more around the apartment. I had bought a spice rack off Amazon, we hung more pictures, unpacked books now that we have bookscases...
Yesterday, we took part in the age old tradition of movies and Chinese food. We saw Passengers. Our local theatre only had a 4-something showing, so we decided to head north to catch it at an earlier time. We found a Chinese buffet for after. Passengers was... interesting. From a pure science-fiction visual effects perspective, it was excellent. However, the plot itself was extremely problematic, and brought up several questions on emotional abuse in relationships, male/female stereotypes, and the question of consent.
We also, in between the movie and Chinese food, walked around a park. C. and I both play Pokemon Go, and this particular park had several stops. One thing we are definitely lamenting the lack of in our new town is Pokestops. Our apartment is a frequent spawn point for the creatures, but we have only a few stops near us, so anytime we can manage to find ones to collect the items to catch the Pokemon is welcome. Plus, it gives us a great opportunity to see new neighborhoods, and learn about our new location.
Happy Holidays. However you are celebrating this year, I wish you warmth, light, and happiness in the coming season and new year.
