A few entries ago, I talked about Boardgaming. We had made it back to the store GameMasters, but upon actually playing BoardGames there, found it was not quite what we wanted. C. had joined a few meetup groups, and learned of a few other Gaming Groups. One on Friday, and one on Saturday.
The Friday one seems to be a real winner. It's held in the upstairs cafe area of our local grocery store (which seriously, is giant), and is a large-ish group with people of all ages. We played Catan, Sushi Go, and Agricola (in that order). Everyone was very welcoming, and given its extremely close proximity to us, we already plan to go back next week.
The Saturday group I am little less enthused about. It's a new group - last night was their first meet - which C. learned of since he plays D&D at the same gaming store during the week. It was all college age-something males. It was an interesting experience. In that type of group, C. falls very quickly into the role of teacher. The best example of when we pulled out "One Night Ultimate Werewolf". Playing deducement games like that with C., one needs to understand his level of play. After seven years together, I have some understanding of it, and even joked at one point, if they needed my help in translating his logic. It's not the first time we've fallen into that dynamic, "teacher"/"translator", and it's not one I enjoy playing too often. We played several rounds of One Night, with the Werewolves winning almost every game.
Probably not going back to that group. It was fun, the guys were a great bunch, but I'm also not wholly looking to hang out with people at minimum a decade younger than me. But hey, on the plus side, I did find two books I've been wanting to read on sale at a bookstore going out of business. (The gaming store is located in a mall; the bookstore is in the same mall.)
No exciting article finds (or not-finds) at work this week. I'm nearly finished inventorying the materials in all the filing cabinets, so next project is to better organize them all, and hopefully, be able to put on my records management cap. The idea is, now that I know everything we have, to be able to better get rid of items we do not need. Once the filing cabinets are all organized, I get to start working on all the items in boxes. There are still a lot of boxes...
We bought a dining room table/chair off Craigslist for our little dining nook. And also my mother-in-law sent us pears. I plan to make this.
